Poe’s Funeral at Westminster Hall
This will be the biggest Poe Bicentennial event in the country that marks Poe’s death! An antique horse drawn funeral hearse will bring Poe’s body from his Amity Street home to the Westminster Hall for burial services. A drum and fife marching unit will lead the procession. The funeral services(s) will include a number of speakers including people who knew Poe, his business associates, relatives, writers who were inspired by Poe including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Charles Baudelaire, Jules Verne, Alfred Hitchcock, and living people including Rupert Holmes and others. Famed actor John Astin will officiate over the services. Throughout the service music will be offered by a choir, a violinist. Mr. Monte Maxwell, organist for the US Naval Academy Chapel will play Westminster’s 1889 Johnson pipe organ during the prelude to the service. The funeral procession begins Sunday, October 11th at 11:30am at the Poe House and there will be two funeral services one at 12:30pm and one at 4:30pm.
