Girlfriends - The Key to Sanity

I just got a really bad haircut, really, bad. So of course I immediately post my mild horror on Facebook. By the time I check in hours later, I have at least half a dozen comments from my girlfriends saying it must not be that bad, I have a face that can handle any haircut, it’ll grow back, etc. etc. My mild horror was soothed down to a slight inconvenience.

Girlfriends, what would we do without them? They do what chocolate and chardonnay cannot fully accomplish…they can calm us down, get us excited and make us laugh all in one conversation if necessary, with no added pounds or hangover. Facebook is good, but face time is better!

So for 2010 a new year’s resolution that is worth making is to spend more time with these wonder gals. My girlfriends keep me sane! Whether it’s venting about kids, family, significant others, money, jobs or lack of any of these; I know I can find a compassionate ear and usually a good laugh from any one of my gal pals. After all they go through the same stuff, so they know.

Seems easy enough, right? Why have to make a resolution? Well we all know the answer to this. Our lives are busy, our schedules are full and we’re tired when there is free time. But we also know that carving out a little time, or a lot, is SO worth the effort. Whether it’s going to the mall for sales and lunch, joining a class together, organizing a girls’ night or a girls’ getaway or just grabbing a coffee or cocktail….it’s all worth it! So take a second to send that email or text suggesting some time together and make it happen. We all need to find more time for sanity and support from those who know what we’re going through and when they see us can say, “Oh it doesn’t look that bad, besides, I hear mullets are coming back!”
