Star-Spangled Banner Weekend

STAR-SPANGLED BANNER WEEKEND: September 10-12, 2010
Did You Know?
Fort McHenry was garrisoned by Union troops during the Civil War. The fort served as a prison throughout the war and was the birthplace of the Star Spangled Banner. As the war raged around him Francis Scott Key was inspired by the site of the American flag flying high over Baltimore’s own Fort McHenry to pen the now iconic National Anthem.
Fort McHenry will have a weekend of celebration in honor of the event.
This three-day encampment and extravaganza is celebrated with over 100 War of 1812 reenactors, parades, military bands, fireworks, a symbolic ship-to-shore bombardment and much more! The Star-Spangled Banner Weekend honors Defenders’ Day, Baltimore’s oldest holiday commemorating the bombardment of Fort McHenry and the writing of “The Star-Spangled Banner!”
